To The Good People Of Southern Ontario

Those of you who listen to the radio on a regular basis have probably heard them.

They’re ads for Labatt Blue and Blue Light beer, trumpeting their product as “The Good Stuff”, and sale prices as “A Gooder Price”. Yes, you read right, they actually say “gooder”.

You’ve probably also heard the ads surrounding this, the Civic Holiday weekend, known in Ontario as Simcoe Day. The Marketing Jackasses thought they’d be really clever and tell you that the holiday is named after a lake, then cajole you into buying their Good Stuff for a weekend by the aforementioned body of water.

People, they’re having you on. You know that, right?

Simcoe Day was in fact named after this guy, a quick-thinking soldier and early war hero who went into public life and thought that Toronto would be a swell place for a provincial capital. The very fact that The Big Smoke is where it is, is primarily down to this old fellow.

Just thought you’d like to know. Have a grand day off, won’t you?
