Papal Similarities
Watching news footage of the Dalai Lama’s arrival in Canada, my mother looks puzzled.
She: Does he think he’s the Pope?
Me: Well, he is a holy man.
(She ponders this as we watch him wave to the crowds and clasp his hands in a reverent sort of way.)
Me: He’s kind of like the Pope of Buddhism.
She: Aaah.
Draw a papal analogy and she’ll get it every time.
